Kamala Khan created the Champions after meeting several young vigilantes through the online community r/YoungHeroes, believing that teenagers deserved a place where they could help people without being dragged into the political conflict surrounding the Registration Act. What began as a private Telegram group between strangers quickly evolved into real friendships as the young heroes started exchanging advice, equipment, and reports of unusual superhuman activity across the country.

first mission

The team’s first mission began when Kamala discovered a series of reports linking missing teenagers to recruitment programs sponsored by Roxxon. Joined by Ultimate Spider-Man, Kid Nova, Viv Vision, Sensational Hulk and All-New Cyclops, the young heroes infiltrated a Roxxon research facility in New Jersey expecting to expose illegal experiments on minors. Instead, they uncovered evidence that the corporation had been studying young people affected by mysterious phenomena such as The Mist, mutant gene activation and other emerging superhuman conditions. Among the recovered files were records connected to Melissa Gold and the failed experiment that had once transformed her into the criminal known as Screaming Mimi.
Although the Champions managed to rescue several captives and broadcast part of Roxxon’s activities online, the corporation erased most of the evidence before federal authorities arrived. The mission made the teenagers realize that powerful companies and political interests were willing to exploit young superhumans for profit and control, while the adults responsible for protecting them often looked the other way.
Rather than disbanding after the operation, the six heroes agreed to continue working together. Without headquarters, mentors or government support, they established an informal network throughout the country, using encrypted communications to coordinate their activities while balancing school, family responsibilities and secret identities. As more young heroes began reaching out through the internet, the Champions slowly became a symbol that heroism belonged to the next generation as much as it did to the legends that inspired them.

Notable missions

Following their attack on the Roxxon laboratory, the Champions became targets of the corporation's private security forces. Forced to abandon their normal routines for several days, the young heroes found refuge in abandoned buildings, subway tunnels, and the homes of teammates willing to risk exposing their secret identities. While hiding together, they slowly began learning about one another's lives beyond the masks. Miles introduced the group to his passion for graffiti, Kamala shared the online community that had brought them together, Sam constantly spoke about the adventures of Richard Rider across the galaxy, and Viv struggled to understand why human friendship came so naturally to everyone except herself.
Their search for Roxxon's remaining facilities eventually led them to Brooklyn, where the corporation attempted to recover a container stolen years earlier by Aaron Davis. The mission became deeply personal for Ultimate Spider-Man, who secretly knew the thief was his uncle. Rather than revealing the truth, Miles attempted to resolve the situation alone, allowing Roxxon's agents to corner him. The Champions arrived just in time to save him, and although Miles confessed everything afterward, the team chose not to judge him. Instead, they reassured him that every one of them carried secrets they were still afraid to share.
As the investigation continued, Sensational Hulk discovered that Roxxon had recovered fragments of Arcade Corporation's research following the destruction of Brain Wave. Believing the stolen data could contain information about his own Gamma Core, Amadeus became obsessed with recovering the files, repeatedly placing himself in unnecessary danger. It was Kamala who finally convinced him that proving himself smarter than everyone else mattered far less than trusting the people fighting beside him.
Meanwhile, All-New Cyclops found herself pursued by agents working for Nathaniel Essex, who feared her prolonged absence from Xavier's Institute would compromise his plans. Cornered by the assassins, Natsu prepared to surrender herself rather than endanger her friends. Instead, the Champions refused to abandon her, helping repel the attackers before escorting her to safety. During the escape, Natsu finally admitted that she had originally infiltrated Xavier's Institute under Essex's orders. Although the revelation created tension within the group, no one asked her to leave, believing that who she chose to become mattered more than the mission she had once been given.
The first chapter of the Champions came to its conclusion when the team launched a coordinated assault against Roxxon's largest experimental facility. Fighting side by side for the first time as a true unit, every member relied on the strengths of the others rather than acting independently. Although the laboratory was destroyed and dozens of imprisoned teenagers were rescued, the project's directors escaped before they could be captured, taking most of the research with them. Watching the survivors reunite with their families, the six young heroes realized that the Champions had become more than an online group or an alliance of convenience. They had become the family each of them had been searching for, and together they vowed to continue protecting young people from those who sought to exploit them.

Honorary members

As the Champions' reputation continued to grow, several young heroes began crossing paths with the team, offering their own experience while remaining independent. Though none of them became permanent members, each left a lasting impact on the Champions and helped shape the team's identity.
After Roxxon's activities began expanding into Jersey City, Kamala Khan was introduced to Dust and the vigilante Red Dagger, two young heroes who had spent years protecting immigrant communities from organized crime and extremist groups. Recognizing Kamala's struggle to reconcile her family's conservative traditions with the responsibilities of being a superhero, the pair began mentoring her outside of combat. Dust encouraged Kamala to embrace her own identity without abandoning her culture, while Red Dagger taught her discipline, stealth, and the importance of standing by her convictions even when those closest to her disagreed. Their guidance helped Miss Marvel become a more confident leader, capable of balancing both her family life and the responsibilities of leading the Champions.
The team's lack of formal combat experience soon became apparent during several confrontations with Roxxon's security forces. Hoping to prepare the young heroes for increasingly dangerous missions, Victor Alvarez, the All-New Power Man, volunteered to train them. Rather than focusing solely on physical strength, Victor emphasized teamwork, situational awareness, and protecting civilians above defeating enemies. His lessons proved especially valuable to Ultimate Spider-Man, whose tendency to shoulder every burden alone gradually gave way to greater trust in his teammates. By the end of Victor's training, the Champions had begun fighting less like six individuals and more like a unified team.
Their growing operations eventually attracted the attention of Moon Girl, whose scientific brilliance impressed even Amadeus Cho and Viv Vision. After discovering that the Champions constantly operated from abandoned buildings, school rooftops, and borrowed safehouses, Lunella designed a fully mobile headquarters capable of supporting the team's investigations. Equipped with laboratories, communication systems, living quarters, medical equipment, and advanced defensive technology, the Champions Mobile Bunker became the team's first true home. More than simply providing transportation, the vehicle gave the young heroes a place where they could study, recover, and spend time together away from the pressures of their everyday lives.
Viv Vision found an unexpected friend in Red Locust, whose optimism and compassion contrasted sharply with Viv's analytical view of the world. While assisting the Champions during several humanitarian missions, Red Locust encouraged Viv to experience ordinary human life rather than merely observing it. She introduced her to local festivals, neighborhood restaurants, music, and simple moments of friendship that no database could adequately explain. Through their growing friendship, Viv slowly came to understand that humanity could never be measured through logic alone, helping her accept that she did not need to become human to truly belong among them.
