Early Life

Miles Morales was born to police officer Jefferson Davis and nurse Rio Morales, two parents who remained deeply involved in every aspect of his upbringing. Having worked tirelessly to provide their son with every opportunity they never had, they expected the same level of dedication from him, insisting on excellent grades, good behavior, discipline, and perfect attendance.

Their expectations only grew after Miles was accepted into the prestigious Brooklyn Visions Academy, where the academic pressure became even greater. Falling outside the top ten students in his class would be a disappointment he felt he could never allow himself to become.

Despite the strict structure of his home life, Miles found another influence in his Uncle Aaron, his father's brother. Aaron lived a far simpler life in a cramped but welcoming apartment, shared Miles' passion for music, regularly took him into the subway tunnels to paint graffiti, and was the one who gave him the set of brushes Miles still uses today.

It was during one of those visits to Aaron's apartment that everything changed. Miles was bitten by a strange, shimmering spider that distorted reality around itself. Shortly after escaping from the guest room—which Aaron always kept locked—the spider died, leaving what initially appeared to be nothing more than an ordinary insect bite.

As the days passed, however, Miles' body began manifesting increasingly bizarre abilities. He developed organic web-like sap that could be fired from his wrists, bioelectric venom blasts capable of discharging through his fingertips, microscopic adhesive claws that allowed him to cling effortlessly to walls, and an overwhelming instinctive chill that warned him whenever danger was approaching. Piece by piece, everything seemed to be transforming him into Spider-Man.

For as long as he could remember, the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man had been Miles' greatest childhood hero. His sketchbooks were filled with studies of the hero's poses and anatomy, and becoming a superhero felt like destiny itself. That dream, however, was shaken when Spider-Man publicly declared his support for President Osborn's Registration Act, legislation directed against vigilantes. Deeply disappointed, Miles concluded that adults could sometimes lose their way. In his eyes, he could not simply become another Spider-Man—he had to become something better.

Fortunately, Miles also found guidance in Professor Parker, a science teacher he deeply admired. Parker never discussed politics during class, but Miles often walked him to the corner after school, where his wife would pick him up. Though Miles thought she looked strangely familiar—perhaps like an actress—their conversations focused on life rather than celebrity. Parker openly criticized anti-vigilante policies, believing that if his late friend Gwen Stacy had become mayor instead of Wilson Fisk, the world would be a very different place. Even so, he insisted Spider-Man must have had his reasons. Miles disagreed. To him, no justification was important enough to abandon one's responsibilities.

Miles now embraces the responsibilities of living two lives at once. While continuing to pursue his artistic passions and his calling as Spider-Man, he remains equally committed to honoring the sacrifices his parents made for him by excelling at school and making them proud.

Rather than following in Spider-Man's footsteps without question, Miles has chosen to forge his own path. He believes a hero should never compromise their responsibility to protect others, regardless of politics or public opinion. Determined to become a better hero than the one who inspired him, Miles continues balancing his education, family, art, and vigilantism, convinced that he can succeed at all of them without sacrificing any part of who he is.
