Biography 

Early Life

Gorilla Grodd was born as a member of Homo gorillensis, an archaic simian species that emerged around the same time as Homo erectus, but followed a distinctly different evolutionary path. Unlike other contemporary human species, Homo gorillensis developed exceptional social intelligence and established a complex society even during the most remote periods of antiquity.

Very little evidence of this ancient civilization survived. The only known remains consisted of bodies that had been partially mummified by a volcanic eruption, which ultimately became the very event responsible for the downfall of their society.

Centuries later, the existence of this lost civilization became the basis for a scientific experiment conducted by S.T.A.R. Labs. As part of a project devised by Dr. Emil Hamilton, the organization entered into an agreement for a televised experiment involving the hero Flash. The experiment would combine Flash's abilities with complex machinery to transport him through time to the ruins of the Gorillian civilization, in what was considered a scientific endeavor that had never been attempted before.

The experiment was successfully carried out. However, when Flash returned to his own period, the machine connected to Wally West malfunctioned. The failure created an imperceptible temporal rift that connected the two eras behind a thin layer of invisible fabric.

Flash subsequently gave countless interviews about what he had witnessed on the other side of the rift. During these interviews, he revealed the existence of the mysterious civilization and gave it the name Gorilla City, a name that quickly made headlines and would eventually become part of history books.

It did not take long for the gorillas to discover the temporal rift before S.T.A.R. Labs could seal it. With no way of communicating with Homo sapiens, the gorillas sent an expedition across the divide into the modern world.

Grodd was chosen to lead the expedition because he was different from every other gorilla. He had been born with metagenic abilities that made him a powerful telepath. Although these differences had once made Grodd an outcast within his own society, his unique abilities now became the key to his rise to power.

As the only member of his people capable of understanding the new society they had encountered, Grodd assumed a position of authority over the expedition. He warned his fellow gorillas about what he believed to be humanity's true intentions, convincing them that an interspecies war was approaching and that their only options were to kill or be killed.

Grodd's ambitions went beyond simply protecting his people. He sought to bring his entire land into this new era and believed that achieving this would require a massive power generator—something comparable to the very individual whose abilities had brought them into the modern world.

That individual was the Flash.

The Coming War

Grodd has come to view the modern world and humanity as an existential threat to his people. Convinced that an interspecies war is inevitable, he has positioned himself as the leader capable of preparing Gorilla City for what he believes is the coming conflict.

His extraordinary telepathic abilities, once the trait that separated him from the rest of his society, have become the foundation of his authority. Grodd believes that the same powers that once made him an outcast are what make him uniquely qualified to lead his people into the future.

To bring his entire land into the new era, however, Grodd requires an enormous source of power comparable to the one that transported his civilization across time. Since the Flash was responsible for creating the circumstances that allowed Gorilla City to reach the modern world, Grodd has identified him as the necessary key to his plans.

Grodd therefore seeks to enslave the Flash, intending to use the speedster's immense power to create the massive generator required to bring his entire civilization into this new era.
