Biography 

Early Life

Yrra Cynril was born a princess of the glorious people of Xanshi. Like many members of her lineage, she was sent away from her home at a young age to attend a boarding school on Okaara, an institution dedicated to training and educating future stellar rulers. 

Yrra spent her childhood and adolescence at the school, preparing for the responsibilities expected of someone of her position. She remained there until she was nearing graduation. 

At that moment, news arrived that would completely change the course of her life: Xanshi had been destroyed and her people exterminated. The catastrophe had been caused by a failed operation carried out by the Green Lantern Corps.

Devastated and distraught by the destruction of her home and the death of her people, Yrra fled the boarding school. She abandoned the future that had been prepared for her as a princess and chose instead to forge her own path of vengeance, driven by hatred toward the Green Lanterns.

Her greatest obstacle was finding enough power to accomplish that vengeance. Yrra did not want to rule through fear in the manner of Sinestro's wayward followers. Her bitterness was more closely aligned with sorrow than rage, making her unsuitable for the Red Lanterns. At the same time, her murderous intentions would have been suppressed had she joined the Indigo Tribe.

While searching for a source of power capable of fulfilling her desire for vengeance, Yrra heard stories about a renegade facet of creation: the Zamarons. They were a group that had separated from the part of their own species that had become the Guardians of the Universe, choosing instead to study the emotional spectrum and manipulate it through control. The Zamarons were described as priestesses of feeling in its purest form.

Yrra's search for them became a long journey. Eventually, she found the one known as Star Sapphire, the avatar of the Zamaron society. Star Sapphire had once been a mortal woman from an Alpha-class planet before being transformed into a deity.

Star Sapphire accepted Yrra without hesitation, considering her a sister and welcoming her into her cult. Her greatest weapon was absolute empathy. In her heart, desire and truth reigned supreme, and she taught that every emotion should be experienced to its fullest because every feeling ultimately returns to the same ancestral emotion: the love of simply being able to feel.

Yrra embraced this philosophy and began to transform her hatred and sorrow into something connected to love and empathy.

She eventually hunted down a Green Lantern with her own hands: the robotic Stel. After defeating him, Yrra took his ring and brought it to Star Sapphire. The ring was condensed into pure energy, and Star Sapphire shared a fragment of her soul with the object.

This act gave rise to the first of an entire horde that would eventually become the Violet Lanterns.

Yrra then named herself Fatality, because fatality was the great force behind her absolute love.

Absolute love

As Fatality, Yrra Cynril's existence became defined by the contradiction between love and destruction. She had once sought vengeance against the Green Lantern Corps because their failed operation had destroyed Xanshi and exterminated her people. Through the Zamarons and Star Sapphire, however, she came to embrace a philosophy in which every emotion was meant to be experienced completely, with love existing as the ancestral emotion at the center of them all.

Fatality's absolute love is also directed toward John Stewart, the man she considers responsible for the destruction of her race.

She loves John Stewart despite the fact that he is connected to the event that destroyed everything she once had. In Fatality's view, without John Stewart she would never have known ruin, and without that ruin she would never have sought love as an answer.

Had the Green Lanterns never destroyed Xanshi, Yrra believes she might have remained nothing more than another princess from another planet, never discovering the inner light that ultimately transformed her into Fatality.
