In: Batman Enemies

harley quinn (Earth-7)

Harleen Quinzel, better known as Harley Quinn, began as a psychiatrist with a genuine desire to help people. But her path into the darkest corners of Gotham’s underworld turned her into something far different: a chaotic, unpredictable jester who thrives on madness and rebellion. Through the "Quinzel Method," she embraced her own fractured psyche and helped others do the same, eventually reinventing herself as the clown princess of crime.

Biography

Origin

Harleen Quinzel pursued psychiatry out of a sincere wish to help people. She focused on the most disturbed patients, dedicating herself to guiding them toward sanity. However, over time, Harleen began to question whether true sanity even existed, and if it did, whether it was worth pursuing at all.

The Quinzel Method

Her doubts led her to a new philosophy: people should embrace their "best version" of themselves—even if that version was terrifying to others. This became the foundation of the Quinzel Method, a twisted therapeutic approach that encouraged patients to personify their id through symbols of fear and freakishness. The method taught them to weaponize society’s contempt and reframe it as power.

Revolutioning Gotham

Through this practice, Harleen’s influence spread among Gotham’s rogues. Villains like the Mad Hatter, Killer Moth, Magpie, Firefly, Ventriloquist, Ratcatcher, and Orca, among others, found empowerment in their inner madness, reshaping their identities through her method.

The Joker

Harleen’s ultimate test subject, however, was the Joker. For years she prepared herself for this "final project," and when the moment arrived, the Joker did exactly what she had envisioned: he broke her completely free from her old self.

With his chaos as a catalyst, Harleen Quinzel abandoned her former identity and embraced her new persona—Harley Quinn.

As a gift, she was the responsible for helping him to break free from Arkham Asylum, which consequently caused the Massacre.

Now, Harley embodies contradiction. She is a court jester of chaos, exposing the madness beneath Gotham’s facade and mocking the fragile rules of order. Always on the winning side in her own eyes, she shows society the faces it tried to ignore—those pushed to the margins—and drags them back into the spotlight.
