SIR SAVAGE (EARTH-7)

Biography 

Early Life

Spring. Cold weather. A hungry people. War. Death.

Abandoned. Lost. Wandering.

Cold. Light. Sky. Warmth. Sleep.

And suddenly, everything made sense.

At some point in the distant past, Savage stood before a glowing crater. Whatever had created it transformed him, blessing him with pure evolution and consciousness. The experience elevated Savage beyond the primitive existence he had previously known and became the beginning of his extraordinarily long life.

Millennia later, Savage wandered among the Vandals after they had sacked the ruins of Camelot. It was during this period that they gave him the name Vandal Savage, believing him to be more intelligent and perceptive than the rest.

Savage continued to live through the ages, watching humanity change and develop around him. Hundreds of years passed, then centuries, then millennia, yet Savage remained. He experienced the rise and fall of civilizations and witnessed humanity repeatedly reinvent itself.

Eventually, Nicolaus Copernicus became the first person to directly question Savage about his origins. Savage could offer only a mysterious explanation: an incessant, fiery shooting star had appeared and blessed him before eventually cooling.

Copernicus proposed that the answer to Savage's apparent eternal life might lie beneath the stars themselves.

By 1941, Savage experienced what he considered one of the better periods of his existence. He was treated as a guest of honor by Germany, whose government was interested in studying his physiology. They considered Savage the epitome of what they viewed as a pure race, and therefore regarded his unusual biology as something worthy of scientific study.

Savage, however, continued beyond this period and eventually reached the modern age.

By then, he had set foot in virtually every corner of the Earth, including places that had since disappeared beneath the surface. He had witnessed empires rise and collapse, civilizations flourish and disappear, and countless generations of humanity come and go.

He had seen men rot as quickly as fruit.

Yet, despite everything he had experienced across his extraordinarily long existence, Savage had never encountered anything quite like the Justice League.

The Heroic Age

The emergence of the Justice League represented something completely new to Savage.

This new phase of the Heroic Age fascinated him, but it also repulsed him. The League represented an unfamiliar development in humanity: powerful beings openly dedicating themselves to protecting others and shaping the world through ideals of heroism and justice.

Savage became increasingly interested in them.

Over the following years, the Justice League secretly began using sorcery to rehabilitate a long list of criminals, including members of the Secret Society, a group of supervillains that had previously opposed them.

Savage himself became involved with the Secret Society.

However, his relationship with the organization eventually ended in betrayal.

Savage discovered the secret identities of every member of the Justice League. Before he could reveal this information to the leader of the Secret Society, however, the group was apprehended.

Savage was imprisoned.

He spent a decade in prison, convinced that he had been betrayed by his own group. The experience only deepened his distrust and gave him time to consider what had happened.

Eventually, Savage was freed by an old friend: Ra's Al Ghul.

His freedom did not lead him to abandon the past.

Instead, Savage discovered the truth about his former colleagues and began hunting them down across the globe. He sought to learn everything he needed to know so that he could eventually take his revenge against the Justice League.

Savage's understanding of the League was fundamentally different from that of ordinary criminals.

He knew that the heroes were powerful, but he also understood their greatest vulnerability: beneath their extraordinary abilities, they were still beings capable of weakness.

The heroes apparently did not want humanity to discover that they were just as fragile as everyone else.

But they had never managed to fool Savage.

The Immortal's Return

Savage's experiences with the Justice League eventually led him toward a new objective: bringing humanity back into the lower castes of its own limited existence.

To accomplish this, he realized that he would need to ally himself with someone capable of providing the resources necessary for his plans.

That person was Lex Luthor.

Luthor stepped in and provided the necessary funding, while Savage contributed the knowledge and secrets accumulated throughout his immense existence.

Their arrangement gave Savage access to resources capable of supporting his ambitions while allowing Luthor to benefit from the secrets of someone who had witnessed humanity's development across the ages.

Savage therefore enters this new phase of his life with everything he has accumulated over the centuries: his knowledge, his experience, his understanding of humanity, and his certainty that he has seen civilizations rise and fall enough times to know what humanity truly is.

The Justice League may represent the newest phase of the Heroic Age, but to Savage, they are merely another phenomenon in the endlessly changing history of mankind.

He has already watched countless civilizations disappear.

He has already survived the passage of millennia.

And now, with Lex Luthor's resources and his own ancient knowledge at his disposal, Vandal Savage prepares to once again shape the fate of humanity according to his own vision.
