Loki Laufeyson, the God of Mischief, is one of Asgard’s most infamous figures. Born a Frost Giant and adopted by Odin, Loki grew up in the shadow of his brother Thor, wrestling with feelings of rejection and inferiority. A master of sorcery and trickery, Loki’s journey is one of shifting identities—villain, trickster, and reluctant ally—interwoven with prophecies of Ragnarök, forbidden magics, and cycles of death and rebirth. His tale spans manipulation, betrayal, and unexpected redemption, as he constantly seeks power, recognition, and ultimately, a place in the world.
Loki was born the child of Laufey, ruler of the Frost Giants of Jotunheim. Considered small and weak by his people, he was abandoned at birth. During the war between the Asgardians and the Jotuns, Odin discovered the infant and took him in, raising him as his own son alongside Thor.
Despite being raised as a prince, Loki always felt like an outsider, reminded that he lacked Odin’s blood and destined never to inherit the throne.
Loki’s life intertwined with an ancient Asgardian tradition: the Triads, a mystical cycle where arcane power manifests through three chosen sorcerers in each generation. In Loki’s era, the triad consisted of Loki himself, Amora (the Enchantress), and Sygin. Together they uncovered forbidden rituals and ancient knowledge. While Odin tried to guide these manifestations, Loki increasingly sought to push boundaries, awakening dangerous powers. Loki’s sorcery produced great threats: Sleipnir (Odin’s eight-legged horse), Fenrir the wolf, and Hela, goddess of death.
During Odin’s Odinsleep, Loki uncovered the truth of his Jotun origins. This deepened his sense of betrayal and drove him further down the path of villainy. He manipulated others, including his Triad sisters Amora and Sygin, to pursue forbidden knowledge and rituals. These revelations fueled his rivalry with Thor and made him a declared enemy of Asgard.
Loki then coveted the serpent Jörmungandr, which rested in Midgard, seeing in it a weapon for revenge against both Odin and Thor. Consumed by resentment, he repeatedly schemed to take Asgard’s throne or destroy Thor, though Odin’s mercy and Thor’s compassion often spared him from final defeat.
Loki eventually sought out Hela, the Empress of Death, at the gates of Hel. He bargained with her, claiming that Ragnarök was approaching but that he could circumvent his own destined end.
Hela agreed, slaying the God of Mischief but reincarnating him into a mortal, youthful body: Kid Loki. In this form, he was prepubescent, powerless, and vulnerable, stripped of the Triads’ magical legacy.
As Kid Loki, he sought redemption and mentorship, most notably turning to Scarlet Witch to regain magical training and knowledge. Though mistrusted by allies and haunted by the sins of his past self, Kid Loki struggled with his identity—torn between the chance to become something new and the inevitability of becoming the trickster god once more.
