The Galactic War was an event that spanned the entire cosmos, with unexpected heroes from across the universe having to unite for a common cause: to slow Thanos’s advance and bring down his empire.

ORIGIN
Thanos, the Mad Titan, is an Eternity who was exiled by his own people and went on to create his own empire of fanatical followers and conquerors, all of whom share the same morbid fascination and obsession with death.
In his quest for power, Thanos discovered the existence of the Infinity Stones, and to locate them across the galaxy, he devised a complex plan of conquest, exploitation, and ruin for each of the planets that would interest him on his personal journey.

To prevent the Nova Corps from interfering, Thanos’s daughter, Gamora, was given her own guard to capture the central base on Xandar, where she carried out a mass genocide of thousands of Nova Corps members.
Eventually, Gamora would break away from her father’s ideals and willingly surrender to the Nova Corps, but the damage was already done, and Nebula, Thanos’s renegade daughter, took control of Xandar for herself, now with the help of the Graces, a group of intergalactic bandits who seek only profit.

The reprisals on each planet grew increasingly severe, with hunger and thirst taking hold in societies across the globe; some of Thanos’s children—those who were part of the Black Order—even divided these planets among themselves, as if they were the new rulers of the universe.
This sparked a revolt among other empires that saw their power threatened by the Black Order. Blackbolt reorganized Inhuman trade and security, turning Attilan into an isolationist society. Lilandra Neranami led the Shi’ar diplomatically, seeking to maintain good relations with Thanos and his empire. The Kree allied themselves with her cause and offered their army, with the nobles taking the lead over the clergy, who had previously ruled the nation as a theocracy. The Skrulls had their lands invaded and exploited, causing a diaspora they face to this day. Brood eggs were scattered throughout the galaxy after their home planet, where they lived underground, was blown up to prevent rebels from using the uninhabited planet as a meeting point.
The Spartax and the Chitauri allied themselves with Thanos, as did Blaastar, who offered control of the insectoid race known as the Annihilators, which Thanos rejected, considering them difficult to control and capable of causing havoc if set free. The Phalanx remained hidden throughout the glory years of Thanos’s empire.

RESUMING THE POWER
After nearly five calamitous years, Nova Corps found hope in the hands of the Earthling Richard Rider, who received the last Centurion helmet from a fallen agent, who inspired him to carry on his legacy and save the galaxy.
Nova then gathered all the intergalactic heroes he could find—or at least anyone who wanted to make a difference and was brave enough to do so.
The Ravagers were a group of marauders who had been threatened by Thanos; they came from all over the galaxy. Yondu was a native of a conquered world; Major Victory was a human from the future; Martinex and Charlie-27 were ex-convicts, fugitives from the Nova Corps; the twins Aleta and Stakar Orgod could merge energetically into the hero Starhawk; Nikki was a child rescued by the group. Krugar was a sorcerer-monk and Mainframe a miscalibrated AI, and they survived together, like a family.
The Starjammers also joined the fight—space pirates who had lost their source of income with Thanos in power. Ch’od, the aquatic brute; Raza Longknife, the star sailor; and Hepzibah, the elfin sharpshooter, were led by the earthling Corsair, who had once been abducted, escaped his captors, and decided never to return to Earth, having no family left.
Finally, Nova encountered more heroes across various planets—this time without a group or team—and so decided that together they would become the Annihilators, liberators of the galactic people.
Among the members, Kl'rt stood out: a genetically modified champion of the Skrull people. Ronan the Accuser, a devout Kree who sought to restore theocracy to his nation; Norrin Radd, the herald of Galactus who received the World-Eater’s approval to intervene—since Thanos posed a threat even to cosmic figures like himself; Quasar, a teenage Earthling who possessed bracelets of immense power; and Beta Ray Bill, deified by his people as a Kornibite god; Binary, a living star—actually a Kree captain—who disagreed with her people’s decisions and acted secretly as this stellar heroine; Sersi, an Eternity who enjoyed experiencing human life; and Blue Marvel, a hero who was once born on Earth but now lived protecting deep space.
Together, they fought and fell many times, until they managed to completely liberate the galaxy, containing Thanos and sending him to a highly reinforced cell in the most secure space prison known as Klyn.
As for his followers, the Black Order, they scattered across the universe like rats, waiting for the right moment to return to the light, when Thanos gains enough power to bring about the end of the universe.
