Raven is a half-human, half-Asura sorceress from the timeless dimension of Azarath, born as the prophesied key to freeing the demon Trigon. Gifted with vast empathic and magical abilities, she carries the eternal burden of containing her father's evil essence within herself. Trained by Azarath’s greatest sorcerers, Raven eventually fled to Earth after the destruction of her home, where she became a member of the Teen Titans. Her life is a constant struggle to keep Trigon imprisoned while resisting the pull of his dark influence.
Azarath was a timeless, perfect dimension where peace was maintained through eternal penance and isolation. Arella, the spiritual leader of Azarath, was seduced by Trigon, a powerful Asura imprisoned within a cursed ruby. Her union with him was a calculated act by Trigon to produce a hybrid offspring—someone powerful enough to eventually set him free. This child was Raven.
Raven was born with the unique ability to sense all the evil in humanity instantly. Recognizing the danger she represented, the sorcerers of Azarath trained her intensely from a young age. She mastered her powers in an extraordinarily short time, learning to control her emotions and abilities to keep her father imprisoned in the ruby.
Despite Azarath’s vigilance, the ruby’s prison weakened over time. Trigon began influencing events in the dimension, leading to its destruction. Under demonic compulsion, Raven was forced to annihilate Azarath’s sorcerers to prevent them from freeing her mind and breaking his control. As Arella lay dying, she managed to shield Raven’s mind long enough to create a portal for her to escape to Earthly Plane. Raven fused the ruby with her own body, making her mind and soul the prison for Trigon.
Her clothing, once traditional to Azarath, became corrupted and darkened by Trigon’s influence. She uses several enchanted amulets to maintain control over her father’s essence, living under the shadow of her own dark destiny.
On Earth, Raven became the target of the Church of Blood, a fanatical cult led by Brother Blood, a devoted follower of Trigon. The cult’s goal was to hunt Raven and use her powers to release Trigon. Among their ranks was Jinx, the last surviving sorceress of Azarath, who sought vengeance for the destruction of her home. Jinx manipulated Brother Blood into believing he was Trigon’s perfect vessel, while secretly planning to absorb Raven’s powers herself. Once empowered, she intended to channel the ruby’s energy to rebuild Azarath under her own rule.
It was during one of the cult's paranormal pursuits of the girl that she was found and then taken in by the Teen Titans.
As Raven continues her endless struggle against the influence of Trigon, she finds herself growing increasingly desperate for something she has never truly possessed: freedom. Every day, the voice of her demonic father grows louder within her mind, a constant reminder that no matter how much discipline or control she achieves, the darkness within her can never be fully silenced. For most of her life, Raven has carried this burden alone, convinced that no one could ever understand the weight she was born to bear.
Everything changed during the tournament held to select the newest member of the Titans. Among the finalists was Joseph Wilson, the young vigilante known as Jericho. Unlike the others, Jericho possessed unusual astral and possession-based abilities that allowed him to perceive the chaotic energy hidden within Raven's soul. During a private conversation, he offered something no one had ever given her before: a way to temporarily suppress Trigon's influence and experience peace.
Determined not to lose that opportunity, Raven quietly manipulated the outcome of the Titans' decision. While many members favored Terra as the team's newest recruit, Raven subtly influenced the emotions of her teammates and secured Jericho's place among them. Since then, the two young mystics have grown exceptionally close. Night after night, while the rest of the Titans sleep, they perform secret rituals that allow them to exchange bodies for brief periods of time. During those moments, Raven experiences a sensation she barely remembers existing—the absence of Trigon's presence, the feeling of being completely herself.
Yet the arrangement has created new dangers. The secrecy surrounding their rituals threatens the trust that holds the Titans together, and Raven has become increasingly dependent on the freedom those experiences provide. At the same time, every journey into Jericho's mind reveals fragments of memories, emotions, and secrets that do not belong there. Beneath his calm exterior, she senses something hidden, something neither of them is willing to confront directly.
For now, Raven continues walking a dangerous path between liberation and obsession. She knows Jericho is keeping secrets, just as she continues to hide her own from the Titans. The question is no longer whether the truth will emerge, but what will happen when it does—and whether the fragile peace she has found is worth the price it may ultimately demand.
