Biography 

Early Life

Dinah Laurel Lance was born in Platinum Flats, California, inheriting a legacy shaped by both heroism and sacrifice. Her grandmothermother, Donna Drake, once fought alongside the Justice Society under the name Black Siren, wielding powerful sonic abilities. When Donna abandoned the heroic life to raise her daughter, she passed down not only her powers, but an unspoken burden, letting Dinah becoming the next Black Canary. 

 Dinah’s death from cancer left Dinah Laurel Lance to be raised by her father, Detective Larry “Del” Lance, who instilled in her a fierce sense of justice and resolve.

As Black Canary

 Blessed with the same metahuman vocal powers as her mother, Dinah eventually took up the mantle of Black Canary, determined to honor Donna’s legacy. Yet she found herself torn between two callings: fighting crime and pursuing her passion for music. Refusing to choose, Dinah embraced a double life—by night, a masked vigilante dismantling criminal networks; by day, Laurel Lance, a rising pop singer filling arenas with sold-out crowds. The separation between these worlds was often as simple as a blonde wig, a leather jacket, and the mask she wore.

Her combat skills were honed under the guidance of Ted Grant, a close friend of her mother and a former heavyweight champion better known as Wildcat. Under his brutal but principled training, Dinah became one of the most formidable hand-to-hand fighters in the world, matching her sonic cry with discipline, precision, and relentless will.

As Black Canary, Dinah became a fixture of the streets—particularly in Star City, where her paths famously crossed with Oliver Queen, the Green Arrow, beginning a partnership marked by tension, admiration, and undeniable chemistry. 

World's Greatest Fighter

At the height of her fame as a pop singer and hero, Dinah Laurel Lance took a year-long sabbatical from her career and from Green Arrow, driven by a growing fear that her legendary combat abilities were fading, leaving only her sonic powers intact. Determined to reclaim her full potential, she sought out and studied Sandra Wu-San—Lady Shiva, the world’s greatest fighter and leader of the Brotherhood of the Fist. 

 When Shiva discovered her and defeated her in a brutal, powerless confrontation, Dinah proposed an unprecedented bargain: they would switch identities for one year.

  Lady Shiva would go to America as Black Canary, fighting local crime and learning humility through compassion and empathy. Dinah would assume the mantle of Lady Shiva, taking control of the assassins’ network in Asia, becoming a global fugitive and learning discipline through absolute responsibility and command. Ideals were set aside—only the goal mattered.

Canaries Reunited

 A year later, they met again, transformed. Shiva, as Black Canary, had protected the powerless with ruthless efficiency, but her empathy curdled into vengeance, dismantling criminal empires through assassination and permanently staining the hero’s symbol.

 Dinah, as Lady Shiva, became a master strategist and relentless leader, toppling corrupt regimes and redistributing stolen wealth to oppressed communities, turning Shiva’s name into a symbol of liberation and charity—yet also corrupting the identity she wore. Their reunion ended in one final confrontation. 

 This time, Dinah defeated Lady Shiva, leaving her on the brink of death. Instead of killing her, Dinah offered a final deal: Shiva would live and reclaim her empire, but Dinah would take Cassandra, Shiva’s imprisoned teenage daughter—trained like a weapon, knowing only war and discipline—back to America. 

 Dinah was willing to enforce the deal through violence, the discipline she had learned as Lady Shiva. Shiva accepted without hesitation, embodying the humility she had learned as Black Canary. Thus, Dinah Laurel Lance returned to America not only as Black Canary, but as the world's greatest fighter.

 Cassandra Cain was delivered in the hands of Barbara Gordon and Batman, as the gotham heroes would be the only ones capable of teaching the girl everything about justice while protecing her from the Brotherhood of Foot or the League of Assassins.

Birds of Prey

Oracle’s growing influence made her a perceived global threat. The United Nations placed her under surveillance through the Spy Smasher program, fearing her access to information could destabilize international order. The assigned agent, Katarina Armstrong, infiltrated Barbara’s life, prompting Oracle to preemptively form her own covert strike team to prove her value as an ally rather than an enemy.

 She chose Huntress, her most ruthless confidant, and Black Canary, the world’s most skilled fighter. Together, the trio infiltrated a hidden League of Assassins base, captured David Cain, and delivered him directly into UN custody during a televised summit.

  There, Oracle hacked the world’s leaders simultaneously, demonstrating both her power and her restraint. Revealing themselves as the Birds of Prey, the group declared a new form of international justice.
