ORACLE (Earth-7)

Barbara Gordon, once the daring Batgirl, began her career as a librarian at the Wayne Charitable Foundation. Recruited by Batman for a secret project to help orphans escape Gotham’s criminal underworld, she became a mentor in the Robin Class. After a life-altering event forced her to reinvent herself, Barbara emerged as Oracle—a master strategist and information broker, determined to shape the future and always prepared for any challenge.

Biography

Early Life

Barbara was the eldest daughter of Gotham's Police Commissioner. After her parents' divorce, Barbara chose to remain in Gotham to complete her studies, while her mother and brother moved to Chicago.

As a teenager, she began using her access to police information to secretly help Batman, Gotham's new masked vigilante who had taken it upon himself to protect the city, but who was also constantly being pursued by the local police.

As Batgirl

Her first job was as a librarian at the Wayne Charitable Foundation, offered to her by Dr. Leslie Thompkins, the institution’s director. By night, Barbara led a secret double life, leaping across Gotham’s rooftops as Batgirl, inspired by her idol, Batman.

Bruce Wayne eventually discovered her acting out as the vigilante Batgirl, so he revealed himself as Batman and invited Barbara into a new covert project. The mission aimed to remove orphaned children from Gotham’s criminal underworld, giving them a safe environment and a meaningful purpose. Barbara was tasked with now training the six chosen orphans of the Robin Class, all adopted by the Wayne Charitable Foundation.

A Friend of Mine.

Early in her career, Huntress crossed paths with Barbara Gordon, then operating as Batgirl. Their uneasy alliance began while investigating the Ghost Dragons, a criminal syndicate tied to Russian mob interests and a KGB-linked counterfeiting operation known as HAMMER. As the case unraveled, Helena’s personal history resurfaced through Tony Bressi, a mobster and former family associate whose crimes included horrific abuse tied to Helena’s childhood. The investigation escalated into a violent underground war involving Redzone, KGBeast, and rival criminal factions.

Throughout the conflict, Helena’s lethal instincts repeatedly clashed with Barbara’s moral restraint. Yet, through betrayal, near-death encounters, and brutal confrontations, Batgirl was forced to confront the cost of justice. When given the chance revenge Helena while in hands of her past agressor, she chose justice over compassion—and decided to pull Tony Bressi from the rooftop of his luxurious apartment.

The Massacre

Barbara devoted herself to the cause of Batman and Robin Class, believing in the possibility of a better Gotham. However, a tragedy changed everything. The Massacre took away more than just her physical freedom—it stole her hope. Forced to start over, Barbara left behind Batgirl and embraced a new identity: Oracle.

As Oracle

After abandoning the mantle of Batgirl, Barbara Gordon reinvented herself as Oracle, a one-woman intelligence network capable of hacking, analyzing, and centralizing global criminal data beyond anything Batman would allow her to access independently. What began as remote support for Batman soon evolved into a service for the wider heroic community, aiding figures such as Nightwing, Green Arrow, Vigilante, and even the U.S. government under Amanda Waller’s direction.

Then, Barbara Gordon became the ultimate intelligence hub for street’s heroes. She orchestrated missions, provided vital intel, and ensured her allies were always one step ahead. No longer the rooftop-leaping vigilante, she remained prepared for anything, refusing to believe in coincidences, and holding the future firmly in her grasp.

Birds of Prey

Oracle’s growing influence made her a perceived global threat. The United Nations placed her under surveillance through the Spy Smasher program, fearing her access to information could destabilize international order. The assigned agent, Katarina Armstrong, infiltrated Barbara’s life, prompting Oracle to preemptively form her own covert strike team to prove her value as an ally rather than an enemy.

She chose Huntress, her most ruthless confidant, and Black Canary, the world’s most skilled fighter. Together, the trio infiltrated a hidden League of Assassins base, captured David Cain, and delivered him directly into UN custody during a televised summit.

There, Oracle hacked the world’s leaders simultaneously, demonstrating both her power and her restraint. Revealing themselves as the Birds of Prey, the group declared a new form of international justice.

In the aftermath, Katarina Armstrong admitted defeat, acknowledging that Oracle’s knowledge would never be a threat to those who ruled justly. Through the Birds of Prey, Barbara combined her strategic brilliance with her unwavering commitment to justice, while now mentoring a new generation of Batgirls.
