Cold, calculating, and utterly ruthless, Slade Wilson became one of the most feared men in the world under the name Deathstroke. For nearly two decades, he operated as the most effective and expensive assassin on the market, building a reputation that made him both legendary and nearly impossible to find. Yet beyond his career as a mercenary, Slade dedicated himself to a far more personal obsession: proving that no one could ever surpass him. This fixation led him to secretly train young heroes and vigilantes through methods so brutal and inhuman that they often became victims of his own ego. His greatest scheme would ultimately revolve around the Titans, a generation of heroes he sought to manipulate, corrupt, and reshape in his own image.

Early Life

For years, Slade Wilson operated across the world as the assassin known as Deathstroke. His skill, efficiency, and willingness to undertake missions others considered impossible elevated him to the top of the criminal underworld. Wealth, influence, and security were all within his reach, yet none of those things truly interested him.

Convinced that no one could ever equal him, he began secretly searching for a successor worthy of inheriting his knowledge and abilities. He recruited and trained teenagers, believing younger minds could be molded into something greater. However, his methods revealed the true nature of his ambitions. Rather than nurturing his students, Slade subjected them to sadistic and inhumane training designed to break them psychologically and physically.

Every punishment, every humiliation, and every setback suffered by his apprentices reinforced his belief that nobody could become his equal. The more they failed, the more convinced he became of his own superiority.

Eventually, his attention turned toward Dick Grayson, then operating as Robin. Seeing enormous potential in the young hero, Slade began meeting with him in secret and training him personally. He believed Dick possessed the discipline and talent necessary to achieve the perfection he had spent years searching for.

Their relationship remained hidden for a time. Slade instructed Robin never to reveal the truth to Batman, knowing the Dark Knight would never tolerate such manipulation. The arrangement continued until Batman eventually uncovered everything.

Batman confronted him directly and defeated him so thoroughly and humiliatingly that Deathstroke was effectively forced out of the continent. For nearly a decade, he disappeared from the lives of the heroes he had attempted to influence, retreating into the shadows while continuing to plan his eventual return.

Meanwhile, Slade's influence continued to haunt his family. His son, Joseph Wilson, grew up aware that something dark existed beneath his father's outward appearance. That darkness would eventually become impossible to ignore when Deathstroke's enemies brought violence directly to the Wilson family, permanently altering Joseph's life and contributing to the fractured relationship between father and son.

Early Life

During that time, Slade never abandoned his obsession with shaping the next generation. His plans evolved beyond individual protégés and became focused on an entire team: the Titans.

When the team of young heroes introduced Jericho as their newest member, Slade interpreted the situation as Nightwing’s personal vendetta against him and feared that Nightwing would do to his son what he had done to him.

 This motivated him to hunt down the group’s founding members, whom he had known and studied when they were still children. 

 Speedy, Aqualad, Kid Flash, and Wonder Girl were his first targets, attacked one by one, where it hurt the most. However, this was only the beginning of a much larger plan.

To advance his schemes, he manipulated his own daughter, Rose Wilson. After years of absence from her life, Slade suddenly reappeared and recruited her into a carefully orchestrated operation. He assigned her the mission of infiltrating the Titans while secretly serving his interests. Rose accepted the task, becoming an extension of her father's plan without fully understanding the larger game he was playing.

Everything Slade had built over the years was slowly converging toward a final confrontation with the Titans.
