SURGE (EARTH-7)

Biography 

Early Life

 Nori was abandoned by her parents after the first outbreak of her powers, something recurrent and caused by the accumulation of electrical energy in her surroundings, which is constantly absorbed by her mutant physiology. She has already tried to control herself, but when the environment seems to become increasingly loud and violent, the only way to stabilize her powers is through an inevitable burst of energy. 

 She lived on the streets for some time, surviving through the practice of Enjo Kosai, in which older men would seek her out to give her gifts or pay for her life, even though she would always end up electrocuting them before they could get any closer than they should.

Children of the Atom

 That was until the day she met a man who seemed to have interests far beyond the girl's vulnerability. His name was Kenuichio Harada, an obvious fictitious alias meant to hide his true identity, and he claimed to work at an institution that would be interested in abilities like Nori's, and would even offer her shelter, food, and comfort in exchange. With few other options to turn to, she accepted the offer, albeit reluctantly. 

 Thus, she entered the Children of the Atom institution, a private boarding school for young Japanese mutants, but she soon understood the real reason behind the invitation: experimentation.

 Only children with highly elevated mutagenic potential, which could be pushed to the extreme, were kept at the institution, but that was not something Noriko was interested in. 

 After deliberately blowing up the institution's transformer, Nori took advantage of the ensuing confusion to sneak her way to the helipad at the top of the facility, where the same helicopter visited the place every week. Now she understood the identity of the mysterious benefactor: Nathaniel Essex, head of Essex Corp.

Fallen Angels

 The plan was simple: hide inside the helicopter until it took off again, then reveal herself in midair and threaten to shut the vehicle down in an electrical outburst unless they took her out of the country. But when the time finally came to act, Mr. Essex did not seem very surprised by the girl's appearance, but rather seemed somewhat entertained. 

 He said he would take her to the United States because of her courage and her potential ability to cause trouble. However, she would only have to promise him one thing: she would never join the X-Men. 

 Left at an airport in Los Angeles, Noriko actually had fun on the way there, aboard Mr. Essex's private jet, trying exotic types of fancy cuisine she had never tasted before. And unlike so many powerful men, he did not treat her as fragile, much less try to take advantage of her. So perhaps she should listen to him. Maybe the X-Men were no more trustworthy than the Children of the Atom, after all. Is there even a safe place for a girl in this world? 

 At the airport, she saw a group of mutants pickpocketing people and causing trouble, until they were noticed by the security personnel. Nori then used her powers to cause a general blackout and facilitate the group's escape. Such an action appeared to have been noticed by the mysterious leader, Ariel. Outside, Ariel approached the girl, gave her the nickname "Surge", and invited her to join the Fallen Angels.
