FANG (Earth-7) 

Biography 

Origin

In 1966, Logan lived with Mariko Yashida in Jasmine Falls, Japan. The two had met while they were prisoners of war of the Axis powers, but were eventually rescued by Captain America and the Invaders. 

 Mariko came from an organized crime family, being the daughter of Lord Shingen, but she enlisted as an Allied spy and a defector from her own country during the Second World War. After the end of the war and the massacre of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, which killed many of her relatives, Mariko also severed her ties with the United States and chose to live with her husband in the remote town of Jasmine Falls while it rebuilt itself in the post-war era. 

 From then on, she would use the identity of Itsu Yashida, so that she would not be found. 

 During those peaceful years, Logan began acting as a local vigilante under the codename Fang, and developed memorable rivalries throughout Japan during his operations. At the same time, Mariko was carrying the couple's first child, who would be named Akihiro. 

 However, it did not take long for Wolverine's past to catch up with him in the form of a persistent and obsessive rival. It was Graydon Creed, who confronted Wolverine in a deadly battle and ended up murdering Mariko. The reason for his hunt was to kidnap Logan and deliver him to the Weapon-X Project, and that is exactly what he did.

Early Life

From Mariko Yashida's body, the mysterious mutant Romulus removed the couple's child from her womb, having observed Logan over the previous months and witnessed the battle between the beasts.

  He knew that Akihiro would survive the end of the pregnancy if he possessed the same mutant gene as his father, and as soon as the child did, he considered his work complete. 

 Romulus handed the child over to the first couple he found and asked them to raise him. They both accepted, as they had long hoped for a child. A short time later, the wife became pregnant with a boy named Junichiro, and now the couple had two sons. But, as time passed, they realized that Akihiro was what they considered a "cursed boy," carrying within him, since the womb, a blood curse that made his wounds temporary and caused claws to grow like those of a beast. 

 Thus, they decided they would not be able to raise the two boys as equals, and began calling Akihiro "Daken," in the sense of being mixed-blood and filthy, both because of the curse he had carried since birth and because of the physical traits he had inherited from his father, such as his tanned skin.

As Daken

Having understood since his conception that this was not his home, and that those people would never treat him as family, Akihiro threw himself into the world, spending days away from home since his earliest childhood and only returning to torment his relatives. 

 It was pleasurable to feed the disgust they felt toward him and to prove every day that he was different, not only from them, but from everyone else. 

 By the time he reached adolescence, he had become known throughout the neighborhood as "Fang," in honor of the local vigilante with equally animalistic traits who protected the region. Even though he did not know of his connection to that man, he already imagined that he might have been his father. 

 Getting involved in fights in nearby towns, organizing strikes against the local government, or having affairs with the neighborhood boys, Akihiro gradually embraced the insult of Daken, but his family did not seem grateful for it.

Leaving  Jasmine Falls

 When he became involved in a fight with his brother Junichiro, he beat him with a crowbar and threatened him with a shotgun. Even knowing that it would not kill him, he knew that his brother would still feel pain, just as he did whenever the bone claws tore through his own flesh in blood each time they extended. 

 Allowing himself to listen to his instincts, Akihiro killed his brother in a violent impulse, and finally felt satisfied after doing so. The conflict among the family intensified, leading his adoptive parents to trap him with bear traps and tie him to a carriage, planning to abandon him deep in the forest, all while continuing to call him cursed, diabolical, filthy, and Daken.

 When he finally managed to escape, already far from the town, he killed them as well, and it was there, covered in blood and flesh, that he reunited with a figure from his past: Romulus.

As Fang

 Romulus introduced himself as a kind of ancient mutant, the first to possess this type of mutation centered on survival, though many had come after him, many like Fang, Akihiro's father, who had abandoned him in Jasmine Falls after being taken by a government organization. Humans had always hunted mutants, and this had been no different.

  Consumed by hatred and vengeance, Akihiro claimed to possess an immeasurable hatred for humanity and asked Romulus to help train him to maximize his mutant gifts. Romulus accepted the idea and traveled with the boy across East Asia as two outcasts, raising him according to his ruthless ideals and feeding even more the bloodlust that had been building inside the young man. 

 By the end of that journey of learning, Akihiro was already operating on his own throughout the country as a relentless vigilante, wearing his father's mantle, Fang.

Meeting Genosha

At the end of his training, Romulus stated that they should each follow their own path, since no truly powerful beast would ever share its territory with an equal, and from that moment onward, Fang was his equal.

  Akihiro knew that they did not share the same ideals, because although he felt disgust toward the world, that very feeling drove him to change it, while Romulus had spent millennia doing everything for his own benefit, believing in natural selection and the survival of the fittest. 

 Even so, Akihiro asked for guidance, a place to which he could migrate, and Romulus explained that he thought much like an old ally of his: Magneto. Today, he lived in Genosha, the mutant nation founded by Magneto through diplomacy and battle. 

 He would welcome Akihiro gladly, and perhaps even have a place for him among Genosha's mutant population. Revolutionary organized groups such as the Brotherhood had also come to live there, and they shared many of the same ideals and the same disillusionment that Fang held about the future.
