Barbara Morse spent most of her early life focused on academic achievement, particularly within biological sciences and advanced research. Her intelligence quickly attracted the attention of government organizations searching for recruits capable of operating in both scientific and tactical environments. After joining S.H.I.E.L.D., Barbara underwent extensive combat and espionage training, eventually becoming one of the agency’s premier operatives.

Her career exposed her to covert wars involving criminal syndicates, corrupt political figures and superhuman threats hidden from the public eye. During these years she adopted the identity of Mockingbird, balancing undercover operations with direct combat assignments. Barbara became known for her efficiency, emotional restraint and willingness to complete missions regardless of personal cost.

Her relationship with Clint Barton deeply influenced her life during this period. Though the two often clashed due to their opposing personalities and different views regarding authority, they repeatedly found themselves drawn together through shared missions and mutual loyalty. Following the rise of global instability after the Registration Act, Barbara was personally selected alongside John Walker, the U.S. Agent, to become part of the Secret Avengers: a government-sanctioned task force assembled through an alliance between S.H.I.E.L.D. and the United States government to conduct missions too dangerous, political or morally questionable for the public Avengers teams. Unlike traditional heroes, the group operates through secrecy, infiltration and deniable operations across the world.

Within the team, Barbara serves as both strategist and field operative, balancing her experience as Mockingbird with the terrifying power of Harpy. Her monstrous transformation made her one of the organization’s most effective living weapons during black-ops assignments involving rogue vigilantes, superhuman terrorism and extraterrestrial threats. Still, every mission forces Barbara to confront the fear that the line separating agent from monster is becoming thinner with every transformation.
