Big Barda is one of the greatest warriors ever created on Apokolips, engineered from birth to become the successor to the legendary conqueror Big Breeda and raised by Granny Goodness as the perfect commander of the Female Furies. Revered as an unstoppable soldier and feared throughout her world, Barda spent her entire life believing she was fulfilling her destiny. That certainty collapsed when she uncovered the truth behind her existence, realizing she had been molded by deception rather than purpose. Rejecting the corruption that defined Apokolips, she abandoned the role forced upon her and chose to fight for freedom alongside the man known as Mr. Miracle, embracing the identity of Mrs. Miracle.
Big Barda was born on Apokolips, a world inhabited by gods who embody the fears, hatred, and repulsive aspects of existence. Among them stood Granny Goodness, the Goddess of the Insincere—a being who presented herself with warmth, kindness, and maternal affection while hiding a profoundly cruel and manipulative nature. Rather than appearing as evil incarnate, Granny deceived those around her by disguising her true intentions behind compassion, becoming the one who raised, lied to, and shaped generations of warriors.
She was developed as a specimen within a laboratory, possessing extraordinary and unshakable genetics. Granny Goodness personally created her in the image of her own daughter—or perhaps in pursuit of something even greater. Barda was the culmination of an ambitious project designed to clone the greatest warrior Apokolips had ever known: Big Breeda, an undefeated general, legendary conqueror, and the greatest love of Granny Goodness' life, whose loss she could never overcome.
As the living successor to Big Breeda, Barda inherited her place in every conceivable sense. No one ever questioned whether that was the life she wanted, because her purpose had already been decided before she existed.
She eventually rose to become the leader of the Female Furies, an elite group of warriors who embodied one of the most universal fears shared throughout existence: the fear of femininity. These women did not represent femininity itself, but rather a corrupted and distorted reflection of it. They stood among the few truly free beings on Apokolips, and it was precisely that freedom which made them so powerful.
Despite her strength, status, and reputation, Barda always felt that something essential was missing. She had never discovered her true nature. Surrounded by gods who each represented a fundamental concept, she found herself asking a simple but terrifying question:
The Goddess of what?
Everything changed during a mission to Earth.
While leading the Female Furies, Barda was tasked with pursuing Fugitive #041971, an escaped orphan from the Orphanage Camps. The assignment immediately struck her as unusual. Escapes from Apokolips were rare enough, but what truly disturbed her was that Darkseid himself had taken a personal interest in someone so seemingly insignificant that he did not even possess a proper name.
Rather than blindly following orders, Barda decided to conduct her own investigation.
Her search led her to Metron, a being who existed beyond the conflicts of Apokolips and New Genesis. Metron represented knowledge that transcended the concepts of good and evil, possessing complete understanding of the universe while communicating only through direct answers to direct questions.
Barda asked him a single question:
"Who is he?"
Metron revealed the truth without hesitation.
On Earth, the fugitive was known as Mr. Miracle. On Apokolips, he was the symbol of an unbreakable agreement. On New Genesis, he was the lost son of Highfather.
In that instant, Barda no longer needed to ask another question.
She finally understood the truth about herself.
She realized she was the Goddess of Mistake—the living embodiment of an existence built upon deception. Every aspect of her creation, every lesson taught by Granny Goodness, and every mission she had faithfully carried out had been founded upon lies. She had spent her life committing evil not because it was her own choice, but because she had been deceived into believing it was justice.
That revelation shattered the identity she had always known.
Rejecting the corrupt judgment she had once enforced, Barda abandoned the role assigned to her by Granny Goodness and Apokolips. She refused to remain the executioner of another's lies and instead chose to deliver her own verdict upon the world that had created her.
Now living under the identity of Mrs. Miracle, Big Barda stands beside Scott Free, believing that both of them deserve the freedom that had been denied since birth. No longer a weapon forged to preserve Apokolips' tyranny, she has embraced the truth of her existence and dedicated herself to breaking the chains of deception that once defined her life.
