In: Justice League

Hawkgirl (Earth-7)

Kendra Saunders is the modern reincarnation of an ancient soul bound by love and tragedy. Across thousands of years and multiple lives, she has fought alongside legendary heroes and carried the weight of memories from her past incarnations. With the discovery of Thanagarian metal and functional wings, Kendra embraced her destiny as Hawkgirl, ready to face the future.

Biography

Origin

Nearly 3,000 years ago, in ancient Egypt, Prince Khufu and his lover Chay-Ara were murdered during a coup orchestrated by Councillor Hath-Set, whose first command was to exterminate the royal family. As they lay dying, Khufu and Chay-Ara swore a blood pact to find each other again in future lives and live together once more.

Over the centuries, their souls were reborn countless times, destined to reconnect. In her most recent previous life, Kendra’s soul was that of Shiera Saunders, a brilliant archaeologist married to Carter Hall. The two discovered an ancient alien ship buried in Cairo, containing armor made of an unknown metal and a pair of fully functional wings.

Family

In the present, Kendra Saunders, struggling with life after a suicide attempt, found herself connected to all her past lives. With vivid memories of Shiera’s experiences, she visited her great-grandparents’ warehouse, discovering the truth of her identity and the purpose she had been seeking. The Thanagarian metal, known as Nth, was not only durable and lightweight but allowed the creation of her metallic wings—symbols of her warrior heritage.

Embracing her role as Hawkgirl, Kendra was finally given a porpouse, so she became a fierce combatant and member of the Justice League, continuing the eternal legacy of love, loss, and heroism set in motion millennia ago.

Reunited with Fate

Trying to ground herself, Kendra took a position as a curator at the Stonechat Museum, where her deep knowledge of ancient cultures (from both study and memory) found practical use.

During this period, she was approached by Doctor Fate, who believed he had located the man Kendra had been spiritually tethered to throughout countless reincarnations.

The man in question was Katar Hol, a human–Thanagarian hybrid and revolutionary who sought refuge on Earth after becoming an enemy of the Thanagarian state. Because of the same cosmic accident that restored Kendra, Katar also began to recover memories of his past incarnations, recognizing Kendra not as a stranger, but as the wandering presence of his long-lost soulmate.

Yet there was a problem.

Katar had already met—and married—the woman he believed to be the reincarnation of his eternal partner: Shayera Hol, a former Thanagarian resistance officer. He loved Shayera deeply. And although Kendra recognized Katar as Khufu reborn, she felt no romantic connection to him in this life.

For the first time in centuries, the reincarnated lovers were out of sync—their hearts no longer aligned with their supposed destiny.

More than Memory

As Kendra Saunders attempts to build a stable life on Earth, she has immersed herself in her work as a curator at the Stonechat Museum, channeling both her academic expertise and the countless memories carried across her many incarnations into the study of ancient civilizations. Yet peace remains elusive. Doctor Fate recently introduced her to Katar Hol, a human–Thanagarian hybrid and political exile whose own fragmented memories have begun resurfacing following the same cosmic event that restored Kendra's connection to her past lives. To Katar, the revelations seemed undeniable: he recognized Kendra as the latest incarnation of the woman who had accompanied him through centuries of reincarnation, the soul once known as Chay-Ara.

The reunion, however, has only complicated matters. Katar has already built a life with Shayera Hol, the woman he believes to be his destined partner, and his feelings for her are genuine and unwavering. Kendra, meanwhile, acknowledges the spiritual bond that links her to Katar's past, but feels no romantic connection to him in the present. For perhaps the first time in their long history, destiny and emotion have diverged. Two souls who spent lifetimes finding one another now stand together as strangers, connected by memory but separated by choice. As Kendra struggles to understand what that means, she finds herself questioning whether fate is truly immutable—or whether, after countless cycles of death and rebirth, she is finally free to define her own future.
