Early Life

In the Pierce family, secrets were never meant to exist. Anissa grew up fully aware that her father, Jefferson Pierce, known to the world as Black Lightning was a hero who had stood alongside the Justice League against threats like Doctor Destiny. But knowing the truth did not make it easier to carry.

Like her sister, Jennifer Pierce, Anissa inherited a diluted metagene. Their powers were unstable, dangerous enough to require daily medication to suppress them. While Jennifer struggled against that control, Anissa chose discipline. She followed her father’s wishes, stepping away from the idea of vigilantism and dedicating herself to a life of purpose through knowledge, eventually graduating from nursing school.

To her, saving lives didn’t require masks.

But the illusion of control didn’t last. As her father withdrew from hero life and became increasingly distant, honesty gave way to silence. The family fractured under pressure, ending in separation. Anissa and Jennifer were split between parents, forced into different lives, different paths without guidance, without stability, and without the man who once defined everything.
